MAL1 Malachite

Shaba Cu Belt, Shaba (Katanga), Congo (Zaïre)

10x 6.5x 2.0 cm

$80

A cabinet specimen of botryoidal malachite.  This particular piece is unlike the usual specimens from the region, which consist mostly of poorly defined masses of malachite on matrix- this one has a delicate, lace-like appearance, with "velvet" malachite on the reverse.

Shaba Cu Belt, Shaba (Katanga), Congo (Zaïre)

4.7x 3.0x 2.1 cm

FRK1 Franckeite

San Jose Mine, Near Oruro City, Oruro Dept., Bolivia

2.2x 2.2x 1.8 cm

$38

A choice thumbnail specimen of this rare sulfosalt, consisting of a ball of franckeite crystals with no visible contacts or points of attachment.

OAF1 Afghanite

Sar-e-Sang, Badakhshan, Afghanistan

7.5x 3.5x 5.2 cm

$135

The center of this specimen is a sharp, terminated, 2.5 cm crystal sticking out of the matrix.  There are 3 other terminated crystals on the right half of the specimen, to 1.2 cm.  Just the sharpest of those 3 smaller crystals alone, trimmed into a thumbnail, would be worth the asking price.  From the summer, 2001 find.

INS1 Inesite

N'Chwaning Mine, Kuruman, South Africa

6.5x 4.8x 1.6 cm

A specimen richly covered in salmon pink inesite crystals, with an unidentified species on the reverse. This is from one of the two localities currently producing good inesite specimens- the other is in Hubei Prov., China.  So that there is no misunderstanding about the color (different monitors will display these images differently) it is a reddish pink- not red, as some of you may be seeing.
