CLU1
Beryl var. Emerald
Panjsher
Valley, Afghanistan
3.4x
2.9x 2.5 cm
$58
A
nice reference specimen from this important locality. Neither
crystal is terminated or gemmy, but the color is excellent. If
they were terminated, this would cost several hundred dollars, and if
they were gemmy it would be several thousand.
But
since they are not, this is a nice and very bright reference specimen
from the locality...and even these do not turn up that often.
The
composition of Panjsher emeralds is the closest of any non-Colombian
emerald to that of the Colombian pieces.
As
a side note, the Panjsher valley was one of the few places that never
fell to the Taliban. The same geography that prevented them from
beating the resistance also foiled several Soviet attempts int he
1980's.

Malachite ps. Azurite
Milapilas,
SOnora, Mexico
4.1x
3.5x 1.8 cm
$39
A nice pseudo of malachite after azurite form the
recent find.
For the size, it is a superb example, and priced

I really do not understand the pricing on these

then identical specimens would be offered for hundreds of dollars a
couple miles down the road.
It is not unusual to see huge price gaps like that--
but things selling for so much are usually not seen in wholesale shows
the same year.... |
