UCRC4 Rhodochrosite

Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon Province, Lima Dept., Peru.

5.4x 4.4x 2.5 cm

$750

A cabinet specimen hosting numerous, rhodochrosite scalenohedrons to 1.7 cm in length.   The color is a deep pinkish-red, and the crystals are set against a nicely contrasting matrix of manganese oxides.  A couple of the crystals show slight weathering, but there is no damage.

These started coming out of Peru in the 80's, but over the past couple years fewer and fewer have been found.  This was among the best in the possession of one of the Peruvian dealers at this year's Tucson show.
