A lovely specimen of barite, with a single crystal perched on a small pillar of matrix. The crystal has a 1-mm ding on the right edge, visible in the lower right image. On the whole however, it is exactly as shown in the pictures, and an exceptionally sculptural miniature from the locatoin.
I visited Miraflores in 2009, the barite locality is another 2 hours walk from that town (and just getting to the town required a crazy mountain drive and some muddy car pushing). Given how delicate most of these barites are, it really is a miracle that so many of them make it out intact-- the road from Miraflores to the nearest actual city (Llata) is incredibly bumpy, and these specimens do get tossed around....
