GX06 Chalcocite, Chalcopyrite
Daye Copper mine, Daye Co., Huangshi Prefecture, Hubei Province, China
4.0x 3.3x 1.0 cm
$365

This was probably one of the few truly new things to make it to Tucson this year, a cluster of chalcocite stalactites coated with a thin layer of iridescent chalcopyrite that gives this piece a beautiful blue-green and purple color.

This one was one of the few examples that clearly displays the structure of the chalcocite crystals.

As with most of these, there is some damage; this is visible in the pictures as white spots. Those spots are the metallic luster of the underlying chalcocite.  Please note the ship on the upper part of the back side of the specimen, visible in the image directly below the description.

All in all, this is a beautiful miniature specimen of this novel and unusual material
