A large cabinet example of cuprite from the recent discovery at Chengmenshan. The one has a display face hosting hundreds of metallic cuprite octahedrons, on a copper/iron rich matrix. Not perfect-- there is some shearing(visible in the closeup), but the crystals on this piece are reasonably large for this discovery, and there are quite a few of them.
While there have been some cuprites that have tricked out of the area over the last few years, this is probably the most significant discovery of the species in China since the find of the hairy chalcotrichite variety back in 2003-2004.
Sawn on the back.
