Copper Mine Point, Virgin Gorda Island, British Virgin Islands
4.7x 3.3x 1.2 cm
$285
Here is something very unusual—a molybdenite specimen from the British Virgin Islands. Actually, it’s the only specimen I’ve ever seen from the territory
This undertaking was organized in 1835 by the Virgin Gorda Mining Company, which then went about recruiting Cornish miners to travel across the Atlantic to work the site. The first shaft was sunk in 1838, and excavations continued for the next 24 years, with the actual digging done by a team of 36 Cornish miners and 140 locals. The mine closed in 1862.
