Vietnamese Heliodor
Several months ago, crystals of Vietnamese heliodor began appearing on the market. Although I was initially skeptical, individuals close to the source have verified their authenticity by submitting samples for testing by separate laboratories, with the results confirming that the crystals are natural. The exact locality remains something of a mystery: Ninh Thuan and Kanh Hoa Provinces are usually given by Vietnamese sources, however a single crystal appearing on a Pala International website states that it hails from "near the Laotian border." Ninh Thuan and Kanh Hoa share a mutual border near the southeastern coast-- the Laotian border is to the northwest. This is nothing new though-- the localities of gem crystals from Southeast Asia often remain obscured for years. Most Vietnamese sources attribute them either to Ninh Thuan or Kanh Hoa.
