Specimens of fluorite on stibnite from a find made last spring! I posted a small batch about a year ago, and later purchased some uncleaned material that I finally got around to processing. I do think these are quite special, so I’m posting a second page for anyone who may still want one. China is home to the world’s largest antimony deposits, mostly concentrated in Jiangxi— the classic stibnites from Wuning and Xikuangshan hail from that area, though those generally lack particularly aesthetic associations— just barite sometimes, unless they are weathered and have stibiconite or sulfur. These however, come from a bit further away in China’s southwestern Guizhou province. The fluorite/ stibnite association is quite unusual in the world of minerals, I only know of this being found 3 times previously— once in Thailand, once in Kyrgyzstan (both 80’s and 90’s discoveries) and then at this mine, once around 2002, and again last year. These have stibnite clusters covered on one side with small, faintly purple fluorites, the light reflects off the underlying stibnites through the fluorites and gives a particularly good sparkle. The backs often have a light dusting of yellowish stibiconite, and clearly show the form of the stibnite. In many cases, the clusters have at least a couple “drill bit” stibnites that show very unusual twisting. In addition to larger matrix pieces, this update also has a number of miniatures and thumbnails, last time I was mostly only able to get cabinet sized pieces.
