A group of liddicoatite slices, from Madagascar. The given dimensions are of the group of 3 slices, mounted together as shown . In their current mount, the slices are backed by pieces of white card stock, to better show the color. They are mounted in a single Perky box measuring approximately 3.3 cm in width.
The pink one on the left measures 1.18x 1.1x 0.2 cm, the other pink is about the same and the blue/ black is slightly smaller and thinner.
On an an earlier trip to the area, I was surprised to learn that liddicoatite specimens from this mine are found approximately 3 days walk from the nearest village-- and that is the way many of these are still transported out from Anjanabonoina. Because of the complex banding and multiple growth generations that produce these beautiful colors, when the crystals are found, they usually just look like ugly dark prisms, revealing only a hint of what may lie beneath. It is only upon slicing that their true beauty is revealed.
