ADB1 Phosphophyllite

Unificada Mine, Cerro Rico, Potosi Dept., Bolivia

4.3x 4.3x 2.2 cm

$1850

Yes, this is the same specimen from before, but I am relisting it following a (much needed) trim.

A 2.2 cm, complete fishtail twin of phosphophyllite...on matrix!  Every now and then miners enter the old workings to bring out specimens.  While the majority are shards, on rare occasions complete crystals are found.

This crystal has a slightly frosted surface and is particularly gemmy around the top, which could probably cut a small stone (but please don't)  The left side of the matrix has been sawed.

The crystal extends to below the little bit of black matrix lying over of its base.

Under different lighting conditions, the color varies.  The image to the right was taken using a chromalux bulb, the image at the bottom right was taken in sunlight, which makes it look pale.

All in all, this is a spectacular specimen, and a rare opportunity obtain a matrix specimen of this exceedingly scarce species.

EMH1 Beryl var. Emerald

Kagem mine, Kitwe Prov., Zambia

3.8x 1.8x 1.4 cm

$575

Among specimen collectors, Zambian emeralds are virtually unheard of, however since the late 80's they have gained popularity as faceted gemstones, a process accelerated by Tiffany's in 1987.  The majority of Zambian emeralds are exported to Israel, where they are cut and then once again exported.  This specimen consists of three parallel crystals on a scrap of matrix, all terminated, translucent,  and showing a deep green color--though with more of a bluish hue than its Colombian counterparts.  The appearance of the specimen might be enhanced by removing the matrix, thereby leaving them double terminated, though I am not going to alter it.

One of the crystals has an incomplete termination, as visible in the pictures.  The color is closest to the bottom 2 rows of images.

All in all, this is a very rare opportunity to acquire a specimen of material that has almost exclusively been used for cutting.

EMH2 Scheelite on Muscovite, Aquaarine, Albite

Ping Wu Co., Sichuan Prov., China

4.5x 4.0x 4.1 cm

$385

A very beautiful miniature, of one of my favorite combinations from Xuebaoding. Only a small percentage of the specimens recovered have such close association between scheelite and aquamarine, and this one is exceptional in that the scheelite, aquamarines, and albite are all complete. Furthermore, the aquamarines are all quite gemmy and undamaged.   This is a very well balanced miniature, and my only complaint is that the scheelite is a bit paler than I would prefer (and than shown in the images).

SHAT1 Shattuckite

Kandesei, Koakoveld, Kunene, Namibia

4.85x 3.7x 2.1 cm

$585

A very beautiful and damage free miniature from this exciting new find out of Namibia.  These are some of the best shattuckites to be recovered in years, and they have only been offered by a couple dealers.

This specimen is particularly rich, and consists of a thick layer of shattuckite coating a quartz matrix.  There is also some malachite.

I was able to have these sent directly from Africa, so in most cases the prices are at least a couple hundred dollars lower than what you would see on other sites.

EMH7 Vauxite

Siglo XX mine, Llallagua, Bustillo Province, Potosi Department, Bolivia.

5.3x 4.2x 1.6 cm

$185

A very rare small cabinet specimen composed almost entirely of crystalline vauxite from Bolivia.  This stuff is incredibly hard to get, and it has only been over the last 2-3 years that a couple new finds have made them more widely available.  The thickness ranges from about 1.6 cm on the whiter side of the specimen, down to only a couple mm on the opposite end, giving it a wedge like appearance when viewed form the side.

SAA13 Henmilite

Fuka Mine, Fuka, Bitchu-Cho, Takahashi, Okayama Prefecture, Japan

6.1x 3.1x 2.1 cm

$365  $245

It turned out that one of the men responsible for discovering the original find of henmilite a few years ago was making the rounds at Tucson, and as such there were a few pieces floating around.  I got my hands on what I could find, and am offering tem here for sale.

Here is a specimen from the best-of-species find made a few years back by a Japanese mineral club during a collecting trip to the Fuka Mine.  These henmilites were initially snapped up by collectors, and have since become scarce in any quality--meaning that even microcrystalline druses have started to command astronomical prices.  This scarcity has been compounded by the prohibition from collecting at the mine, in response to the wave of collectors who flocked there in search of more henmilite. This is very beautiful material, especially given its rarity, and it is unlikely that more will be found.

There area couple more of these listed on the Asia Page

7.4x 6.1x 3.3 cm

A large dolomite from Shangbao, a locality noted for its pyrite and fluorite.  The crystals are aesthetically perched on a scrap of matrix, that also hosts a starburst cluster of small, terminated, quartz crystals.  The right side is also host to numerous small pyrites.  It displays perfectly from the front and sides, however the back is flat due to cleavage.

Please note that this effect is best under strong lighting.  Although the phantoms are visible under normal light, the colors are not as vibrant and the crystals look slightly frosted.

Despite the popularity of specimens from Africa and Kazakhstan, good dioptase from Arizona is very difficult to obtain.  I bout this piece at a rock shop in Utah almost 10 years ago, and have had it in my collection since.  It is a small cabinet specimen, with a display face richly covered with thousands of small dioptase crystals.
